Anti-aging strategies in general to the face can involve some non-invasive
strategies. Botox, dermal fillers, are excellent in trying to smooth out
lines and to prevent the formation of lines. A little bit more invasive
strategies like chemical peels and laser resurfacing also allow for the
reversal of many early signs of aging. However, when gravity has really set
in and there's a lot of laxity to the tissues, surgical intervention is
usually what's required to please the patient.
A facelift is a very commonly performed procedure in our practice, which
addresses many of the signs of aging in our face and neck. The effects of
time, gravity, and sun conspire to increase skin laxity, decrease fat
volume, and even shrink the size of our facial bones. These effects lead to
the formation that we typically see with aging, which include jowls,
sagging of the cheeks, deepening of the nasal-labial folds, or smile lines,
and the formation of the platysmal bands in the neck.
Once these features become established, minimally invasive treatments like
fillers and skin resurfacing techniques with peels or lasers are usually
inadequate in reversing these signs of age. A facelift incision can be
designed that it can be naturally hidden in the crease in front of the ear
and continued behind the ear. In our practice, I perform facelift
procedures which involve both the skin and muscle being repositioned and
tightened. We believe the combined skin and muscle facelift techniques last
longer.
Facelift procedures are performed under general anesthesia at our surgery
center or at a hospital. These procedures typically take three hours to
perform. Other procedures that are often added include a brow lift or
eyelid surgery to rejuvenate the eyes. Most people are able to wear makeup
in five days and can be back at a desk job in one week. Remember, however,
full recovery takes up to several weeks with scars continuing to mature
over several months, even into the first year.
With a Tarrant Plastic Surgery facelift, roll back the years on the look of
your face.
